Hi! I was born and raised in Charleston, SC. I have loved being active with sports and spending time outside in nature my entire life, which is ultimately what led me to choosing a career that promotes physical activity. I have a passion for helping people like you achieve your health goals and get back to moving freely, confidently and joyfully!
I grew up playing many sports including tennis, softball, basketball and ultimate frisbee and also developed an interest in running and road races. I played competitively in United States Tennis Association junior tournaments in South Carolina and throughout the Southeast throughout my childhood and teenage years. I was captain of my high school varsity tennis team for two years and at the age of 18, I was the South Carolina High School League state tennis champion. When I attended the University of Virginia for my undergraduate degree, I enjoyed being active as a member of the club tennis team and club ultimate frisbee team.
Other than sports, I love adventure, traveling and speaking foreign languages, including Spanish and Italian. After graduating from college with a degree in Spanish language, I moved to Spain and taught English for 5 years. It was the adventure of a lifetime! In addition to amazing cultural and travel experiences, I ended up playing competitively on a club ultimate frisbee team in Spain where we traveled within the country and to various other European countries for tournaments. ¡Olé!
I later returned to Charleston to pursue a career in physical therapy, where I graduated from the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2018. I have focused on treating active individuals like you, suffering from aches and pains, injury, dizziness and impaired balance in the outpatient setting since then.
I had knee pain in college from an overuse injury that took me out of running and playing ultimate frisbee for about a year. I remember how frustrating it was to not be active like I desired!
When I began working full-time as a physical therapist, I also unexpectedly developed chronic wrist pain in both of my wrists. The pain lingered for 2 years before I finally understood the root of the problem and healed. It was through this experience that I learned a lot more about the mind-body connection as it relates to persistent pain.
When I first began my training as a physical therapist, I took an interest in treating dizziness after having spells of dizziness and lightheadedness myself and experiencing frequent motion sickness as a child and teenager. I also witnessed several of my close family members suffer from spells of vertigo while growing up. I know how debilitating these symptoms can be, especially if you have had to live with them for a while!
Going through all these experiences has helped me to intimately understand the psychology that develops around ache, pain, injury and dizziness. I have lived it, just like you may be living it now. I understand what you are going through. The road to recovery is not usually a straight line. I can help you recover faster!
